Southwest Airlines is expanding its flight schedule and adding new destinations. 

The airline known for low fares and free checked bags recently expanded its flight schedule to April 7, 2025, and added new flights to popular spring break destinations such as Punta Cana and Cabo San Lucas. In total, the airline added six different routes to its spring schedule, according to a news release. 

From the music city of Nashville, Tennessee, Southwest will begin weekly, Saturday service to both Cabo San Lucas / Los Cabos, Mexico, as well as Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic on March 8, 2025. These new weekly flights provide a new and direct-flight spring break option for travelers from Nashville. Southwest notes the airline already operates routes including Cancun from Nashville. 

The airline will also expand in Austin, TX with new flights to Milwaukee on weekdays, and several flights a week to Reno Nevada, starting on March 6, 2025. Southwest also added a new Sacramento, CA and Tucson, AZ route on weekends

For sports fans, the airline announced several flights for upcoming big games including between Tampa, Florida and Austin, Texas on November 7 and November 10 for SEC (Southeastern Conference) football games. 

"Thanks to our world-renowned flexibility, two free checked bags, and a schedule that flexes with travelers' demands, Customers can book their flights today and secure their spring getaway,” Southwest Airlines’ Vice President of Marketing Jennifer Bridie said in the statement. 

Southwest has been making changes to its business over the last several months, including the announcement of assigned seating in comparison to the current open-seating policy. The airline also recently began listing its inventory on Google Flights. The airline is also launching new overnight or ‘red-eye’ flights, including routes from Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and more.
